Naomi Wise
Come all ye young people and listen while I tell
About a maid they called Naomi Wise.
Her face was fair and handsome;
She was loved by everyone; her body now in Randolph County lies.
They say she had a lover, young Lewis was his name,
And each evening he would have her by his side.
She learned to love and trust him and she believed his word
And she thought that she was soon to be his bride.
One day he came to see her, to take her for a ride;
She thought that she was going to be wed.
They rode to Old Deep river and so the story goes;
"you have met your doom," these words young Bishop said.
She begged him just to spare her, young Lewis only laughed.
He grabbed her and threw her off the iron bridge.
Next morn they found the body floating down the stream
And sweet Naomi’s smiles were seen no more.
Young Lewis left the country. He was searched for everywhere,
All in and out of the old North Caroline.
At last they ran upon him and brought him back again,
But they could not prove that he caused her to die.
