This image shows Doc and Merle Watson performing in front of a group of students in Plemmons Student Union (1967) at Appalachian State University (1967-current) in the 1970s. Doc Watson can be seen sitting second from the right holding a banjo, and Merle Watson can be seen on the right holding a guitar. Dean of the Graduate School Cratis Williams can be seen sitting on the left. Arthel "Doc" Watson was a folksinger who received a Doctor of Folk Arts degree from Appalachian State in May 1973.
