A Cool Drink
After graduation, Frances Denton worked for an architect until she went to the University of Virginia where she received her Masters of Architecture. She was persuaded to try teaching as a career and became an assistant professor of architecture at the University of Nebraska.

Anything But Homework
Comes from the National Heritage Collectors Society which is headed by David Spellerberg. The Society is located in Westlake Village, California. Artist, De L'Esprie attended California State University, Northridge and completed her degrees at Loyola University in Montreal. She first studied counseling and then business before turning to sculpture. Believing she could not make ends meet with art alone, De L'Esprie thought her business and counselling degrees would open doors to more lucrative employment. But then she realized her artwork was paying her way through university and could sustain her afterwards. After obtaining her degrees, she attended Brandis Art Institute taking both private and group classes over the course of four years.

Kent Ambler is a painter, printmaker and sculptor. Kent has been exhibiting his work continuously since graduating from Ball State in 1992 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in painting. His work has been included in over 60 exhibitions, as well as 15 solo exhibitions. His work can be found in over 250 private and corporate collections.

Marni made her first quilt in 1975, but didn't become seriously interested in the quilt as an art form until 1995. She has won awards in local quilt shows. Her work has been exhibited in international quilt shows, she's had one and two person shows, and has been juried into many group exhibitions. Marni has had many different careers ranging from college instructor in theatre to special education teacher to computer programmer to artist.

Ellen was born in Boone. She is a December 2005 Appalachian graduate with two degrees, one in Communications with a concentration in Journalism and the other in Industrial Technology with a concentration in Technical Photography.

Cratis Dearl Williams
Cratis Dearl Williams (April 5, 1911 - May 11, 1985) is considered the father of Appalachian Studies. Born to Curtis and Mona Whitt Williams in Caines Creek of Lawrence County, Kentucky, Williams worked as public school teacher, high school principal, college professor, college administrator. From 1942 to 1983, Appalachian State Teachers College employed Williams as an English teacher at their Appalachian Demonstration School. He also taught college courses. From 1958 to 1975, he served as the first dean of Appalachian State University's Graduate School. In 1974, Williams served as the Acting Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and then the next year as Acting Chancellor. He retired from Appalachian State University in 1976 but continued to work part-time as Special Assistant to the Chancellor writing his memoirs. He married twice first to Sylvia Graham; second to Elizabeth "Libby" Lingerfelt and had two children by his second wife, Sophie and David. Williams' scholarship focused on ballads, Appalachian literature and Appalachian speech. His master's thesis, "Ballads and Songs," focuses on eastern Kentucky ballads. His dissertation is the authoritative examination of Appalachian literature, the 1,600 page analysis titled, "The Southern Mountaineer in Fact and Fiction." Many of his research notes burned in the 1966 Administration Building fire. Williams was the recipient of multiple honorary doctorates and academic awards. Four scholarships and the Appalachian State University Graduate School have been named after Williams.

Natalie received a degree in Industrial Technology with a concentration in Technical Photography in May, 2006 from Appalachian State University. She minored in both Graphic Arts and Imaging Technology and Media Studies. Natalie is a native of Morganton, North Carolina.
